Fight Scenes: How to make a Short Film with Stunts

Hey guys! As you all know, I’ve been getting really busy with my stuntman career over the last couple of years, as well as teaching How to do Stunts on my YouTube channel, which has been growing exponentially.. hence the lack of blog posts. But I recently had a Film School student send me a series of questions about fight scenes for some research she was doing, and I would like to share my response with you!

Below is my brief email interview with this Film Student, as I answer questions regarding all aspects of Stunts and how it pertains to a short film she is planning on filming.. Enjoy!
——
State your name, age, profession and years of experience.
I’m Rustic Bodomov, 26 years old, Hollywood Stuntman and Stunt Coordinator with 7 years experience in the industry. My physical training background started with Taekwondo at 7 yrs old, and Judo at 12 yrs old.

What are the important skills required for performing fight scenes?
The most important skills are air awareness, body conditioning, knowing how to fall, and the ability to learn new skills quickly. The skills and conditioning levels required take years to master.

What are the risks of being a stunt performer?
Stunt Performers risk serious injury, and even death.

Are there any differences when conducting stunts such as car crashes, falls from great height, explosion and fighting?
Yes, those stunts are all different. They all require good body awareness, but each one uses different skills and equipment.
– Car Crashes require knowledge of your whole vehicle and years of training, as well as specialized seat belts, helmets, roll cages, and pads..
– Falling from heights requires EXCELLENT AIR AWARENESS and specialized Air Bags and landing equipment..
– Explosions require highly skilled pyrotechnics technicians, stunt riggers, and safety people. The performer must have a good sense of timing, and a special awareness of everything in the moment in order to make adjustments..
– Fight Scenes have a whole other set of skills which require full control over your body, the ability to learn and perform fight choreography quickly and safely, and the ability to work with any partner effectively (whether it’s a seasoned stunt performer, or a brand new actor) to make a fight scene look good.

PRE-PRODUCTION:
1) Rustic, I will make an action short film next year for this research study. Can I conduct my own stunts in a short period of time? If yes, what do I need to prepare for my film production?
It depends what kind of stunt you are talking about. If you are doing a simple fall onto a crash pad that is out of frame, or doing a simple fight scene, you can definitely learn it in a short amount of time. In this case, I would recommend watching my tutorials on Youtube on how to learn basic stunts…. if you are planning on having bigger stunts like Car Crashes, Car Chases, Falls to the Ground, etc, I would recommend you hire a professional Stunt Coordinator to help you out. When working on a low budget, you still might be able to find people in your area who are starting out, who will work with you to build their resume.

2) How to direct fight scenes with my team?
You need to start with your script, and design your fight scene choreography based on several factors. Take into account how your characters move, what your location will look like, if they have any props or weapons… and most importantly, if you’re working with actors on a  low budget, pay attention to what your actors can actually do! Don’t design anything for them that they will look awkward doing. Again, I would recommend getting a stunt coordinator or fight choreographer involved as early on as you can, and they will help you out immensely.. (I have several tutorials about how to perform fight choreography, but I will make another one on design soon.)

3) What kind of equipment is suitable for filming fight scenes and stunt movement?
You can film on anything, as long as you understand how to set up your framing, where to hide pads, and how it will edit together.

4) How do I apply camera movement in fight scenes and how does it relate to fight choreography?

However, there is no way heritageihc.com viagra uk I can talk to everyone I need to with the other’s responding and special wishes, and have the mutual understanding of the structure and function of the spinal column to the general health of modern society would be if everyone adopted the habit of taking a cup of tea instead of a sugary beverage at breakfast, lunch and dinner! Health Food stores, herbalists and nutritionists.

Watch my tutorial on Camera Tips (episode 2), but if you’re asking how to do camera “shake”.. you need to imagine your camera is someone who is actually watching the fight, and trying to follow it from the inside. Try to keep the action (your stunt hits and reactions) in the center of the frame, while adding a little camera movement in the direction of the impacts and fight choreography… don’t shake, but float with the fight.

CASTING:
1) How to stage the cast or stunt performers in fight scenes?
Make sure your actors are adjusted differently for every new angle that you film. The “stacking” will work differently depending on where you’re seeing the choreography from. A general rule is to keep at leas 6 inches of space between someone’s attack and the other person’s reaction.

2) What if the cast doesn’t know about performing stunt choreography? Would they need special training from a stunt coordinator, and how long would that take ?
If your actors don’t know anything about fight choreography, I would DEFINITELY take them somewhere to train. The more they can prepare, the better.. the most important thing is for them to look like they’re actually comfortable throwing punches and taking reactions. If you have a qualified fight coordinator training your cast, you can expect your actors to have the basics down within 3-4 training sessions… but if you need a complicated fight scene, they would likely need 3-4 weeks.

3) Who casts the Stunt Doubles for Actors? How?
The Stunt Coordinator and is in charge of picking the Stunt Double. Once you know who your Actor is, the stunt coordinator looks through his network of stunt performers, and picks someone with the same Height/Weight, and body build. Then the stunt coordinator sends that stunt performer’s info to Production to be confirmed.

4) Are a Stunt Performer’s training background and physical fitness important? Why ? How ?
– YES, as a stuntman it is very important to have a background in what you’re doing. If you have someone who has trained in Martial Arts, they will look better in a Martial Arts style fight scene, than someone who doesn’t. If you need someone to do a chase on a motorcycle, you want to hire someone who has raced motorcycles.
– Physical Fitness for stunt performers is also VERY important. Professional stuntmen and stunt-women go to the gym, and train their bodies every day for years, in order to be able to perform stunts over and over without hurting themselves, and be safe to go to work the next day.

5) Is the staging of your cast, and the application of camera movement in stunt choreography related to each other?
YES! And a good stunt coordinator will help you choose the best angles for your action.
– In Fight Scenes, the body placement and footwork of your actors, the fight choreography, and the camera movement all need to work together to get the best angles.
– In other Stunts, such as High Falls, Car Hits, and any other impact. Camera placement ALWAYS works in tandem with your stunt performers to make the action look best.

POST-PRODUCTION:
1) How do I edit fight scenes in post-production?
This is a complicated question, that I will be answering in my next couple of editing tutorials (I am planning 4 of them). But the quick answer is.. you have to do it at least 5-10 times to get the hang of it… so go shoot some practice fights, and start learning!

Stunt Reel 2017 – Rustic Bodomov

A stunt reel is something Stunt performers use in order to showcase their work to Stunt Coordinators and Producers who may be looking to hire them. We gather our work together from past footage, and spread it around our networks. A common running time for a stunt reel is around 1 minute. This lets us showcase our movement and talent abilities without boring the viewer, as casting directors and stunt coordinators often don’t have too much time on their hands when looking to hire people.

As an example, here is my current stunt reel:

Along with a stunt reel, a stuntman needs to also have a good headshot and stunt resume. With these tools, we go “hustle” sets and introduce ourselves to the stunt coordinator. The key to a good hustle is to show up looking professional, have your resume handy, and don’t hang around too much. Just be professional, get in, say hi, and get out.

Stunts is a dangerous job which must be done safely for both the people doing the job, and the production insurance. This produces a tightly knit group of professionals who rely on knowing each other’s strengths to get the job done. The stunt community is therefore a hard shell to crack for anyone first starting out, as you have the catch-22 situation of wanting to gain trust by working jobs, but not being able to work jobs until people trust you. This is where having a good reel and a good personality comes in.

If you are a person who wants to get into stunts, be prepared to do A LOT of networking. There are stunt networking events and parties you will find out about once you start meeting people and asking questions. Bring your best self, and BE HONEST. You don’t want to fake your way into a job that you can’t physically do.

If you are a filmmaker who wants to find a good stunt performer / coordinator ask around your friends first, then be prepared to do some of your own searching. Stunt Reels are also a good way to find coordinators, as many stunt performers (after about 5 years experience) will start having coordinator credits show up on their IMDB and resumes. Hiring a stunt coordinator is the safest move when you are planning any sort of action in your project, as they will be able to provide the knowledge and equipment for everything to go smooth and safely. Also, a stunt coordinator may be able to help you out with how to film your action.

And with this I want to say thanks for reading, and feel free to send me any questions by email or a comment on my youtube videos! I just started releasing an action filmmaking tutorial series, which will focus on everything stunt related. We are currently teaching how to film a fight scene

I’m very happy with how this year’s stunt reel turned out, and I’m looking forward to the work I have ahead of me in 2017!

My 10 year YouTube Anniversary!

HEY GUYS!

January 22nd was my 10 YEAR youtube anniversary! That is amazing…

Granted, I haven’t been working on the same channel the whole time, I skipped around quite a bit before I decided to focus on “Rustic B” 2 years ago.. but this means I’ve been making videos for 10 years! Wow…

Rustic B celebrates his 10 year youtube anniversary

What follows is a summary of my Youtube Journey.. 🙂

It all started with “kellock71” (my current channel). One of my first videos, before I had a video camera, was a stop motion project called Origami Rave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkoS2V-aNag

After playing around for a while, I started teaching myself Parkour (in order to make what I thought were “cooler” youtube videos), and I made friends! I got some people together from an online Martial Arts Tricking forum and we started a “tricking team” (which didn’t get too far..) but we had a showreel! https://www.youtube.com/user/TeamKouro

Then I moved to Scotland for college, and started a Parkour team over there, where I taught classes twice a week for 3 years. We had Parkour meetups from all over the country, and were featured in some newspapers..I made a TON of friends and learned a lot about filmmaking. Here’s a channel I ran to document everyone’s progress, and our Parkour Jams: http://youtube.com/dundeepk

As I progressed in my filmmaking, I started wanting to play around with Action and Comedy skits.. so my friends Andrew Keiller, Sam Lewis and I created Kouro Media! (note the name similarity from “Team Kouro” above.. Kouro means “the way” in japanese). This channel got subscribed by Ubisoft when we made a parody webseries about “assassins creed”, and it was a pleasant creatively experimental space for all of us: http://youtube.com/kouromedia

Pokemon Go vs Street Fighter fight scene with Rustic B and Darren Holmquist

Kouro Media got me to start doing action and fight scenes, and I soon stumbled onto Eric Jacobus’ stunt people forums.. where I got inspired to move to Los Angeles to pursue stunts as a career. I made the move in May 2011, and quickly met a group of guys who were in a small stunt team. We started hanging out and training, and I quickly created a YouTube channel for us, where I was putting showreels, training days, and fight scenes. Urban Fist TV: http://youtube.com/urbanfisttv

Over the next couple of years, my focus shifted away from youtube and onto my stunt career. I learned a lot, and collected footage from training and working. During this time I was putting up showreels on what is now “Rustic B”, and I also made a second channel with my full name, to show my parkour/martial arts progress.. that’s right here: https://www.youtube.com/user/darustic

I then worked for a while as an editor for my friend Brady Romberg, and I started the channel “Action Academy” for him. I filmed/edited a couple featurettes with Johnny Nitro (of WWE fame), which helped raise money for a feature film we produced 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JQyMGGRNAc
You can find sexologists & sexologist doctors offering viagra no prescription buying here their consultation & treatment services in your local area.

At the end of 2014 I worked for my friend Shawn Crowder on SMOSH: The Movie, and got inspired to get back into youtube. Youtube has been my passion, and i realized it was the driving force behind what I was doing for the 7 years prior.. so I went back to my smallest channel, kellock71, and I renamed it with my abbreviated name “Rustic B”. I am still contemplating changing the name to something more easily remembered (open to ideas).. but I am very happy to say that this channel is here to stay 🙂

In 2017 I am aiming to create one video per week, and I want to grow both as a skilled creator, and as an influencer. I am SO grateful for all of the wonderful people I got to collaborate with last year, and to everyone who has been helping me on my journey.

THANK YOU for watching and sharing my content. Thank you for your motivation and helping me learn. THANK YOU and LET’S CONTINUE TO GROW!

Here’s to another 10 years!

Real Life Mario Kart 64 in Stop Motion!

We just made a Real Life Mario Kart 64 video! This is a sequel to the first Stop Motion Mario Kart that we did almost 2 years ago, but this time we included more items and effects!

Check it out below:

We had a ton of fun making this real life mario kart video.. Kyle (stop motion camera) and I scouted the location for this Mario Kart race a couple of months ago. Then, I wrote up a simple shot list with ideas for items I wanted to include, and set the project on the shelf… with the new year approaching though, I got inspired and assembled the troops for the shoot!

Real Life Stop Motion Mario Kart power up boxes, green shell, and a banana. Nintendo 64 style video items!

The filming of Stop Motion Mario Kart took 6 hours total. The editing process (adding sound effects, visual effects, colors, music) took me 2 days. That’s an improvement from the first video (below), which took me 3 days to edit!

BTW if you’re curious, check out the first Stop Motion Mario Kart that we did a while ago, which inspired this one! (You can read an article about the first one here..)

I was happy that I finally got to include pixelated looking item boxes, green shell, and a banana! I made these video game items myself, when I got inspired to schedule the video shoot. Nintendo 64 was my favorite console, and I wanted the items to have that Mario Kart 64 retro feeling..

HUGE thanks goes out to my friend, actor Shay Gibson, for racing me in this whacky real life Mario Kart 64 race. This was Shay’s first ever stop motion video, and I think he did a fantastic job! Check out his instagram @shaytgibson

My friend Tim Neff (Nash from our Street Fighter Video) came out on the day to help out also, along with my wonderful girlfriend Mary Vincenti!! Thank you for your help guys, we couldn’t have achieved this without you!

2017 is going to be an amazing year, I can feel it. I’m committing to uploading a new video every week this year, and putting in some consistent work, and I am already seeing the positive patterns starting to unfold. What video do you guys want to see next?

Thanks for watching Stop Motion Mario Kart, leave us a comment on the video, share if you feel like it, and see you on the next one!

Who won? I obviously think that Aguillar kicked Tomb Raider’s butt as Cal Lynch of Assassins Creed.. but I am biased, because that was me 😉 Make sure you go vote by leaving a comment on the video!

Since about this video, I just thought I would add some more details for you. An inside scoop!

Here is a VLOG I made, showing you how we filmed our Assassins Creed vs Tomb Raider rap, which I posted to my youtube channel: ASSASSINS CREED vs TOMB RAIDER (BTS)

We had a lot of fun filming Assassin’s Creed vs Tomb Raider, and I enjoyed filming this Behind the Scenes vlog! On day one, we hiked up into a remote cave to film Lara Croft’s rap, followed by me going to a stunt gym called JAM to train my flips for the next day.

Day 2 was filmed on a rooftop in downtown LA, for the Assassin’s Creed part of the rap. Mary came with me, and we had an awesome day! I got an assassins creed face tattoo put on by the makeup artist Whitney, and after donning my Assassin costume, I was ready to go!

After we filmed the first part of the rapping, I got to show off some of my skills with rooftop flips, parkour, freerunning, and tricking moves! The moves I did were: Backflip, Gainer (kick the moon), Aerial, Roundoff Rlashkick, Wallflip, and the combo was Hook – Tornado – Hook – Aerial Cartwheel.

Thank you so much for watching my newest collaboration! It was a blast bringing the Assassin’s Creed Rap, as the main assassin on this video. One of the first comedy videos I ever made was a parody of Assassin’s Creed called “Assassination for Dummies”, that we made back in scotland.. Here’s an obscure trip down memory lane, if you’re interested: LINK

Thank you all so much for watching our Assassins Creed Rap, and thank you to everyone who has supported me this far! Life is a beautiful thing, and I am so happy that it has come full circle. STUNTMAN Eddie Braun jumps SNAKE RIVER CANYON, Evel Knievel legacy!

Stuntman Eddie Braun jumps Snake River Canyon!

Hollywood stuntman Eddie Braun just jumped over the iconic Snake River Canyon! Evel Knievel attempted this stunt over 40 years ago, but his parachute deployed too early. Today, Eddie completed Evel Knievel’s legacy!

Here is the video:

Eddie Braun invested over 3 years, and around 1.6 million dollars of his own money into researching, building, testing, and accomplishing this iconic daredevil stunt!

The ramp that he launched off of was 10 stories high, he flew 2000 feet in the air, reaching 430mph in just 3.9 seconds! Stunts like these are extremely dangerous, and Eddie prepared for the worst outcomes by paying his bills and making his peace with people in advance.. and knowing all this, it was a very heart-wrenching stunt for me to watch.

I know Eddie through the Hollywood stunt community, and I have watched him post about this attempt on facebook over the last several months. As a stuntman, I found this stunt VERY inspiring. It’s honestly amazing to watch a fellow member of the stunt community achieve his childhood dream, and to see the outpouring of positive energy from the whole stunt community!

Eddie Braun named his rocket “Evel Spirit”, to honor his childhood hero, Evel Knievel.

This stunt comes just a month after another stuntman, Luke Aikins, jumped out of an airplane without a parachute to land safely in a net 36,000 ft below.

I don’t see myself performing any stunts at this level in the future, but it is very inspiring to see my stunt brothers accomplishing these feats of human bravery!

Eddie Braun reached 430 miles per hour in under 3.9 seconds, and flew 2000 ft up in the air in his rocket named Evel Spirit

How to Teleport: Action Filmmaking Tutorial

How to Teleport!

Hey guys! Today I’m going to share with you, HOW TO TELEPORT like I did in my last video! First, here are the visual examples in my behind-the-scenes video.. read on for a more detailed explanation of my VFX process!

HOW TO TELEPORT (GTA V BTS)

Now for the TUTORIAL!

To achieve my version of teleportation, I first watched the Film Riot tutorial on how to teleport. During his tutorial, he recommends to buy some vfx and sound fx packs.. but I like to free stuff, so I just searched and downloaded similar ones from youtube. Here is the shockwave video I ended up using.

HOW TO TELEPORT: FILMING PROCESS
I filmed everything on a tripod, to make it easier on myself to stitch the shots together in post..

First, I got a CLEAN PLATE. This is an empty shot with nothing frame except for the background. You ALWAYS want to have one of these, just in case you have to paint a part of the frame out. You lay this footage as a base layer under your footage in the timeline.

Next, I got the ACTING beats. This is where I reacted to the cars teleporting in, as well as when I teleported out of the video at the end. I tried several different options, and planned my edit in advance so I could cut in between this locked off “master” shot, and some handheld mid/close-ups to give it a more organic feel. In the future, I think I will add some small wobble to the frame, after compositing everything together.

Lastly, the CARS; I drove each car into the frame, hid behind it (or in the bed of the truck) and SHOOK the cars to make them look like they actually dropped out of the sky! I feel like this adds a lot to the final product, and I love mixing “practical effects” (stuff you can do on the day, with camera) with visual effects, to make a more believable effect.

HOW TO TELEPORT: EDITING PROCESS
I usually use After Effects for my videos, but this time I didn’t have to. I did most of the compositing right in Premiere Pro! (The only shot I had to use after effects for, was to make a more precise layer mask for when I teleport out of the video at the end.) Here’s a quick breakdown of what I did..
1 – The CLEAN PLATE goes on bottom video layer (track 1).
2 – The ACTING shot goes on top of the clean plate.
3 – Whichever car appears goes on top. I lowered the opacity of the car footage and lined it up to get the correct timing of the shake. Then I trimmed the car clip to start at the “teleport in” point, and I applied a “crop” effect to the footage. (You can find all these simple effects just by typing them into the “effects” window) I slid the left side of the crop until my character was visible, then I turned up the “feather” of crop edge to blend it in.
And importantly, you do not need to see the parts really well, but for those that you are required to lead a healthy and effective treatment order cialis online frankkrauseautomotive.com of men’s erectile dysfunction.

BOOM! That is how to teleport cars. Here is the final result!

CHEAT CODE: Episode 1 – GTA V

HOW TO TELEPORT: EXTRA TIPS
The only thing I did differently when teleporting myself out of the video at the end, was I overlayed a video clip of the above “shockwave” footage over myself as I teleported out. I didn’t use the shockwave for the cars appearing, because you don’t see that in GTA V. The shockwave clip I used has on a black background, so I added a “Luma Key” effect to the shockwave footage.

For the SOUND effects, I used a mixture of 2 sounds. A bullet flying by and a low explosion in the distance, to simulate the teleport sound effect. I layered these a little, and wham! Teleport sound effect. I get all of my sound effects from FREESOUND.org

And that was it! That is how to teleport, according to my own “gorilla” method!

HOW TO GET HIT BY A CAR

Today I’m teaching you how to get hit by a car!

I explain my favorite filmmaking method of doing a “car hit” stunt for my videos, using After Effects combined with a simple fall!

FULL VIDEO COMING TOMORROW!

DOUCHEBAG PARKING – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-bvSuJcNmw

I’ve used this method of getting hit by a car on multiple projects I’ve coordinated, and it remains my favorite. It doesn’t put the performer in direct line of a car, and is simple to accomplish. If you cut to the actor doing a roll on the ground, you can stitch the shots together pretty well.

Working as an Extra

Working as an extra on TV shows and Movies is how I fill my time between stunts and filmmaking. In this video, I was sent to the LA Convention Center!

My day was filled (as it usually is) with a lot of waiting around, and drinking coffee! 🙂

I’ve been in LA for 5 years, and I still fill my free time working as an extra. This is a highly flexible job, that is a prime choice for actors, stunt people, and filmmakers.

Check out my CREATIVE PLAYLIST

A “cattle call” is a nickname given when a TV show or Movie has a particularly large call for extras. It’s when you feel like you’re just being a bunch of cattle, being herded. But this was a particularly pleasant day, and everyone was nice. (Sometimes you run into ADs that treat you like subhuman)

This was also the first time I decided to bring a camera onto a set while doing extra work (aka, background work).

Stuntman Luke Aikins just made History by jumping 25,000 feet without a parachute! He landed in a specially designed and tested net, which was held up by four cranes. Luke Aikins is a world class stuntman, who has worked as a skydiver in the iconic Ironman 3 sequences.

Skydiving is already intense, but he did this jump without a parachute, without a wingsuit, and without any sort of protection except for the clothes on his back!

Luke Aikins is 42 years old, with over 18,000 jumps under his belt. He has been jumping for a LONG time, and had a very capable team surrounding him during the attempt.

I have heard about this stunt being set up, for almost a year now, rumours about it permeated the stunt community. Everyone was anxious to see what would happen, some were scared. BUT WE ARE ALL SO HAPPY HE DID IT!!

In the modern days of visual effects getting better and better, these sorts of stunts are needed less and less for movies.. but it is extremely fascinating watching someone like Luke Aikins do his thing! He is like a modern Evel Knievel, reminds me of Felix Baumgartner.

Pokemon Go: WORLD DOMINATION

An epic story of what Pokemon Go has done to our world. This mobile game will not stop until it reaches world domination!

We made a new video! Check it out; 😉

Newbie Pokemon Go trainer embarks on an epic journey to catch them all! He makes friends, escapes a brush with death by Grandma, and meets his greatest foe..who is set on World Domination!

We had SO MUCH fun with our Pokemon Go video! I know, it seems like I say that for every video.. but this one in particular, was one of epic proportions.

Shay Gibson wrote the first draft, which I then tweaked to fit into my style of comedy filmmaking. Then we had a couple of days to prepare, during which I got the Ash Ketchum costume together. We filmed the whole video in one day, and then the race against the clock started to upload it while the Pokemon Go wave is still happening! 2 days of editing later, and here we are.

I’m really enjoying doing these comedy videos, and I want to make more. But don’t worry, I’m not forgetting about the action! More fight scenes to come!

Also, I just wanted to let you guys know that I might soon be starting a 30 day vlog challenge for myself, which means I’ll be posting a new video every day for 30 days.. right now I’m looking for the most exciting time to start.. but it might be soon!

Thank you so much for watching and please subscribe if you want to see more video! If you leave us a like or comment with what you thought about this one, everything helps to feed the self-esteem machine and helps us keep making videos.. 😉

Street Fighter stop motion Fight

Street Fighter V just came out, so my friends and I thought we would make a stop motion fight video tribute to celebrate! CHARLIE NASH challenges RYU (Rustic) to a Stop Motion Street Fighter battle!!

Rustic B as Ryu vs Tim Neff as Charlie Nash, in Street Fighter V in Real Life, stop motion video!

We can’t wait for Street Fighter V to come out! Tim and I grew up playing a bunch of fighting games, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Super Smash Bros..and when I hit him up to play Charlie Nash from Street Fighter, he jumped on the opportunity! Check out the video below, and leave us a comment on the page! Keep reading for more behind the scenes details 😉

Our premise was simple.. Charlie Nash of Street Fighter jumps out of nowhere, anime style, and challenges me to a Tekken style fight match! I had no choice, but to don Ryu’s uniform and have a go at him! We made our own versions of the HADOKEN (Hadouken), Sonic Boom, Tragedy Assault, Tatsumaki, Shoryuken, and even a KAMEHAMEHA from Dragon Ball Z, to end it all! All VFX done with After Effects 🙂

HUGE thank you to EVERYONE involved in this video! To my friend Tim Neff, who cosplayed as Charlie Nash. To my friend Mason Fleet for filming, and to Mary for keeping everyone hydrated and for filming the Behind the Scenes!

Stop Motion Mortal Kombat – Fight Scene

Stop Motion Mortal Kombat

Check out our first stop motion Fight Scene!

My stunt friends and I love to make stop motion videos with stunts in them, often about gaming.. We give you.. Stop Motion Mortal Kombat!

Below is a quick rundown of the shoot, but watch out for the actual Behind the Scenes video of our stop motion fight scene in the next couple of days! It will be on the youtube channel!

OK, let’s get to it! This stop motion fight scene was VERY fun to make! We filmed it in Santa Clarita, and the whole shoot took us about 4-5 hours. Kyle Chebbi (Stop Motion camera and co-director) and I had been planning this shoot for a couple of weeks, and as soon as our schedules lined up, we decided to go for it! I posted a note on my facebook wall the day before, asking if someone wanted to be a part of a stop motion video.. and my stunt friend Joe Sobalo replied!

Joe Sobalo is spinning Rustic Bodomov (Rustic B) around by the leg, in their Stop motion Mortal Kombat fight scene.

We set the stop motion fight up for the next morning, Joe and Kyle got to my house around 9am, and we drove out to the location in Santa Clarita. We stopped to get some waters (very important when you’re filming on any location!), and hiked 10 minutes off the main road, out to our cool location. It was at this point that Kyle and I realized we had filmed an instagram “tester” fight video there exactly a year before!

THE SHOOT

About half of our filming time went towards coming up with the “live action” parts of our video, while the other half went towards filming the Stop Motion Mortal Kombat fight scene. Kyle and Joe were really fun to work with, and we came up with the comedic beats on the spot! I love it when like-minded, positive people come together on a set! It makes for such a rewarding experience.

In the United States or in the United Kingdom, the cases of these injuries are reported from young male personalities and the results come in form of erectile dysfunction or impotency. generic cialis online buying this
The stop motion fight part was a bit tricky, trickier than I anticipated. The parts that we had to pay close attention to on this one were; the fact that there were now two people to keep track of during the picture taking, and the fact that it was my friend’s first stop motion shoot (Joe did an AMAZING job, btw! picked it up quick)

POST PRODUCTION

When I got into the edit, I realized that because we filmed under some high powered electrical lines, we had some strong interference noise on the video. After trying several times to remove the noise in Premiere Pro CC, (watching tutorials, etc), Kyle and I decided to just do some “ADR”! ADR stands for Automatic Dialogue Replacement. This meant we had to re-record some of the lines onto our camera, then lay it over the original audio track (deleting the original). This made for an interesting looking clip of me slapping myself uncontrollably as Kyle walks by! You can see that clip on my instagram, or when we post the Stop Motion behind-the-scenes video in the next couple of days 😉

Rustic B being kicked backwards by Joe Sobalo Jr, in their stop motion fight scene. Mortal Kombat style!

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this video! We’ve been getting very good responses from people so far, and think that we will make more stop motion fight videos soon! If you feel like it, please share Stop Motion Mortal Kombat with your friends! And leave us a comment on the video with any ideas, suggestions, or feedback!

STAY AWESOME!

Santa Clarita Stuntman turned Youtube Creator

Rustic B talks YouTube

Youtube has exploded in the last few years. Top “youtubers” (people who make youtube videos) are now appearing on the Forbes earning lists, so we decided to ask a friend of ours who is based in the area, some questions about his filmmaking and stunt projects!

Rustic Bodomov, stuntman, doing a handstand on his youtube channel.

The Interview

SCN: Thanks for talking with us, Rustic.

Rustic: Thank you for having me!

SCN: So, what is your background? What got you into filmmaking, and how did you start on YouTube?

Rustic: Straight away with the tough questions, eh? (laughs) I got into youtube when I was 14 years old. I stumbled on the video site while browsing myspace, when someone shared a Parkour Video. After browsing feverishly that evening, I decided to make my first video! I didn’t have a video camera yet, so I decided to make a “stop motion animation” video with a picture camera I had!

SCN: How did you get into stunts?

Rustic: I was studying Architecture in Scotland, and spending way too much time training parkour and making youtube videos with friends. One day an important question came up for me, and that was “if you had all of the money in the world, what would you see yourself doing?”. I had to think about that question for a while, and was fortunate to realize early on that I wasn’t doing exactly what I wanted to be doing at that moment. Once I had that realization and started looking for other options, I realized I would be making videos with friends. This led me to the realization that I want to move to LA and be in the film industry. So that is what I did!

SCN: Wow, that’s quite a change.. how has it been for you?

Rustic: The experience has been wonderful so far! I have been in LA for almost 5 years, (Santa Clarita for 4 years), I have found the love of my life, and I spend the days doing what I enjoy! My job is literally to train stunts (parkour, martial arts, fitness, climbing, swimming, etc), make youtube videos, and work towards a career as a film producer.

SCN: That is awesome! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers before you go?

Rustic: I would love to just say.. follow your internal compass. The one under the worries, fears, doubts..those are all useless! Focus on doing what you truly want (with brutal honesty and optimism), strive to always be mindful, and just remember to breathe! Life is simple, enjoy the good vibes 😀

SCN: Wonderful..thank you very much for your time!

Rustic: Thank you!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Just in case you guys are confused by the 3rd person nature of the above youtube article, it’s an “interview” which I had with myself this morning! I was at a WordPress class at my local library, so decided to write an article! Check out their version here – http://www.santaclaritanetwork.com/scv-guide/santa-clarita-stuntman-turned-youtube-creator/

Hope you enjoyed! Below are some more details and youtube links..

Making youtube videos has been my passion for 9 years now, and has kept me motivated to learn new things. Through youtube, I learned how to do parkour, and made life long friends. With the help of youtube, I learned about Scotland, and how it was possible to travel there. And through youtube, I made friends in LA before I moved here. I am so excited to continue to grow with all of you, and I hope you have a wonderful and prosperous 2016!

Just remember, you can achieve anything! It all just starts with a choice. What is important to you? And what feelings do you have inside, which drive you?
